In 1956, 12 boating enthusiasts met at Philip Hussey Jr’s home to discuss the feasibility of starting a small yacht club. They wanted to establish a club that would enable their families to access the river and surrounding waters. They hoped to teach sailing to their children as well as children in the community. This small group and their families invited others to join them. So, in September of 1957, the Arundel Yacht club was formed.
